We Stop When the Pie is Gone

Building off of Symphony Zero, “We Stop When the Pie is Gone” was commissioned by Cesspool in 2018 and written in collaboration with the duo, Dave/Eleanor Koenig and Abraham Morrison.

The piece comprises 3 pies (baked from scratch by Brian McCorkle) which are carefully divided into 12 slices each. Each performer chooses a way to assign each of the 12 pitches to their pie, and plays freely among those pitches while the audience enters. As each pie slice is taken, a pitch is removed from the performer’s available tonal material. When all slices are removed the performer must stop playing.
